A few minutes ago I came across a snippet of a documentary that will be airing in the fall/winter of 2011 called Dark Girls. The documentary shows different African American women, most of a darker skin color speaking about how they have felt, do feel and might always feel about their skin color and own race.
I cried, i was so hurt because ALL the women in the video were beautiful and a lot of them didn't believe they were during some part of their lives. It really sadden me that the main people telling them that they were not beautiful were some of their own people.
Some of what is talked about in the movie also had to do with the age old fight: dark skin vs. light skin. One women talked about how this has been holding us back for years and that it might not be something will every stop fighting about unless we want to.
I really didn't want to get into a lot of details pertaining this topic today but I felt this subject needs to stop being over looked and needs to be resolved. I know this is not going to happen tomorrow but I wish it would.
